Alcudia, January 31, 2020
The COTIF, the international tournament in Alcudia that this summer celebrates its 37th edition, has wanted to grow this year with a new “Good People COTIF Award” with which it aims to identify, recognize and support all those people or entities that have noted for its contribution or dissemination of the positive values of sport, in all its diversity and in all its sociocultural spectrum. The jury made up of Vicente del Bosque, María Vicenta Mestre Escrivà, Carlos Velasco Carballo, Ana Muñoz Merino, Alfredo Relaño, Patricia Campos Doménech, Iñaki Gabilondo, Ana Rosell Granados, Jorge Vilda, Salvador González ‘Voro’, Andreu Palop Cervera, Eliseu Gómez , Toni Benavent Clemente and Francesc-Andreu Martínez Gallego have chosen Alberto Undiano Mallenco, former international First Division referee, in this first edition of the award. Born in Pamplona in October 8, 1973, he officiated in the Spanish First Division from 2000 until his retirement in 2019. He also often collaborates in the training and initiation of new members of the Navarrese committee. Undiano Mallenco has a degree in Sociology from the Public University of Navarra (1996) and a degree in Political Science from the National University of Distance Education (2003). In 2008 he was appointed deputy director of the Social Welfare and Sport area of the City of Pamplona.
According to the president of the COTIF, Eliseu Gómez: “The Good People COTIF Award” is, since this, its first edition, our flag. We want to continue influencing a broad vision of sport, loaded with shared capacities and transferable virtues. We want sport to be competition and spectacle, effort and prize or defeat. But also that the sporting experience, lived from where it is lived, serves to delve into the best of us, configures us as sentient beings, expands our capacity for empathy, our affectivity, our capacity to assume and love diversity. Good People, good people, is what we need the most, inside and outside the sport. Discarded the spontaneous generation, we trust in all the educational resources at our disposal to make good people. Sport is one of those resources, and not less, to configure ourselves as sentient beings, to scare away its antonym: hardness, cruelty, impassivity”.
The award ceremony will be on Friday, February 21 from 9:00 p.m. in Alcúdia. The event will be attended by the winner of the award accompanied by all the members of the jury, by the entire municipal corporation and by personalities from the world of politics, sports and culture and the business world.
The award will have a single modality and will reward, each year, a person or entity linked to the world of sports, in any of its specialties and in any of its aspects (social, informative, cultural or properly sports). The statue, which displays the figure of a footballer in a position to execute a pass or shot on goal, is designed by artist Rafael Ferri Doménech. The figure has been manufactured with mortar materials based on aggregates and brightly colored dyes and will be the one that will champion the award, every year, to reward that person or entity that is deemed worthy of the Good People COTIF Award.
