Ruth Beitia Vi

Born in Santander on April 1, 1979. Spanish athlete and politician who competed in athletics in the specialty of high jump.

Graduated in Physiotherapy, she is a Technician in Physical Activities and Sports Animation, as well as Athletics Instructor. She is a professor of Physical Activity Sciences and Sports at the European University of the Atlantic (Santander).

She is the only Spanish athlete who obtained an Olympic gold. She held various positions in the Popular Party and as a deputy in the Parliament of Cantabria between the years 2008 and 2019, when she left politics to dedicate herself to university teaching. She is ambassador of the NGO Padres 2.0

She participated in four Summer Olympic Games obtaining a gold medal in Rio de Janeiro 2016 and another bronze in London 2012.

She won a medal at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics, and four medals at the World Indoor Athletics Championships between the years 2006 and 2016.

At the continental level, she won three medals at the European Athletics Championships between 2012 and 2016, and seven medals in the European Championship of Indoor Athletics between 2005 and 2017.

In 2015 she became the first Spanish athlete to win the Diamond League, title that she revalidated in 2016.
